NZ Tropical Escape

My first post for Magnolia Rouge, I am excited to be part of this journey. I love all things wedding! Choosing the right venue for your wedding is a big part of your planning and styling process. Just recently I visited a tropical escape in Whitianga. Think lush green tropical oasis, the sparkling blues of the waterfall and pools, the scent and beauty of tropical flowers, elegant dining and pampering at the spa. What a location for a small to mid size wedding! No need to go off site for photography as it is all here. Check out www.lostspring.co.nz

Real Wedding: Rebecca + Stephen

We're delighted that the first real wedding we're bringing to you is one of the 'family'! Sue's daughter Becky has kindly allowed us to showcase her magical day at Hotel du Vin and well, why wouldn't you when it looks as gorgeous as this! All beautifully photographed by Jo Currie and of course stunning floral arrangements by the mother of the bride herself! The jewellry is from Sutcliffe, Invites from Ruby & Willow, and the amazing cake from For Heavens Cake.

How did you meet?
Stephen and I met at work - a management consultancy based in London. After a few false starts and over 6 years from first meeting, both now in different jobs, we met up again. This time the timing was perfect and it was all go. We've not looked back since!!
Tell us about your proposal:
Stephen is a Brit. After about 8 months after getting together I executed my plan to get stephen to fall in love with New Zealand. I planned a whirlwind trip of the North and South Island packing in every fabulous kiwi experience I could including trout fishing with my Dad in Rotorua. It was at the end of this trip, sitting on the side of a beautiful lake near Rotorua that Stephen nervously popped the question. A classically kiwi setting and wonderful as we got to share the day with my family.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I found my dress in a boutique in London called Browns Brides. It was by an Italian Designer called Peter Langner and made for me in Rome. When I was told the designer was inspired by Audrey Hepburn I fell in love. It had a simple and elegant shape with organza and ribbon capped sleeves and an organza and ribbon train. The veil was trimmed in the same ribbon. The attention to detail was amazing and even extended to my name and a blue ribbon sewn inside the dress, just for me to see.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding?
An aqua marine and diamond necklace I bought when I got engaged. I spent the year paying it off so of course it became the inspiration for our wedding colours.
Describe your wedding flowers:
One of the best parts of the day. My mother, an incredibly creative florist, was the genius behind our flowers. When she brought me my bouquet, I shed the first tears of the day. It was a long stemmed bouquet of gardenias with the odd crystal inserted into a flower like a dew drop. Mum had tucked the lace handkerchief my grandmother had given me. My grandmother had also carried it down the aisle on her wedding day (although apparently it was tucked into her bra).
On the tables we had balls of hydrangeas and peonies and little heart shaped vases of gardinias set on large mirrors.
Describe your wedding cake:
A simple square layered cake with our initials iced onto the sides, white and blue hydrangeas on top and inside the perspex cake stand. Aqua and chocolate coloured ribbon tied around it.
Favourite detail of the day:
Had to be grandmas handkerchief in my bouquet (I was able to show her as I walked past her down the aisle).
Were there any special traditions that you included?
As it was a british/kiwi wedding some of the guys treated our british guests to a spontaneous haka.
Most memorable moment?
I can't choose.... Other than the moment Mum handed me my bouquet it had to be walking down the aisle and seeing Stephen's face. My heart was thumping like mad, I've never felt anything like it and I just couldn't wait to get down there to him. The other was my Grandmother taking stephen and me aside and making us promise to be kind to each other everyday of our lives - harder and wiser than is sounds.
What advice would you give out to someone planning their wedding?
Don't sweat the small stuff. The most important thing come rain, hail or shine is that you are marrying the person you have chosen to spend the rest of your life with. The rest pales into insignificance if you stay focused on that. Your guests will pick up on that attitude too and it will guarantee the party of a life time.
What’s next for you as a couple?
We are having a baby in October. The adventure continues!!

Congratulation to Becky & Stephen. Wishing you all the best for the excitement ahead!

More from the Wedding Show

As promised more photos....I loved both looks we had going, so different but both so gorgeous!

Board#3: Boudoir Beauty

Palette: Shell, Black, Ivory
Think soft romantic dreamy overtones

This colour just shouts the word Boudoir...reminds me of being a kid using my Nan's powderpuffs whilst sitting at her dressing table. Does anyone have a dressing table these days? Seems like such a glamourous idea...perhaps we could start a resurgence in them! I think we could all do with a wee bit of glamour at the moment!

Sneak Peak.....The Wedding Show

Just come back from the Wedding Show - phew what a day! There's always such a lot of work in the proceeding week with planning and setup (especially when you only plan it all two days out!) and the day itself is rather tiring but it's great to be able to talk to all the brides out there who are excitedly planning their big days. More photos to come in the next day or two....in the meantime I have some well needed sleep to catch up on!

Board#2: Vintage Black & White

Having a classic black & ivory colour scheme is so timeless - it's striking and oh so chic and elegant! I think I'd need to have a Grand Piano playing in the background just to complete the mood!

Palette: Black & Ivory

Think Ralph Lauren, Vintage 1940's, Glamourous beading.

Kailagh & Timothy

We've just sent out the door stationery for Kailagh and Tim's wedding this coming Easter Sunday and thought we'd give you a sneak peak! How cute is it with the little birds! Simple, sweet and classic! We love it so much we're going to add to it our upcoming Signature Collection release, so keep an eye out for that sometime in May.
I have the pleasure of working with people during one of the most exciting and happy times of their lifes and Kailagh has to be one of the very nicest brides I've ever worked with and I wish her and Tim all the very best for this weekend and their future together. Hopefully they'll share some of their wedding photos with us further down the track!

Hello! Welcome to the Magnolia Rouge blog.

Ok, so here goes, my blogging debut (yes I guess that makes me a virgin blogger!). I must admit this first post feels just the littlest bit awkward, as if I'm talking to no one in particular but I guess that means it can only go up from here!

I will be bringing you plenty of eye candy to feast on; posting photos from events we have worked on, helpful articles and tips for planning your big day, creative design in our day to day life and of course plenty of stunning pictures to inspire you....basically for anyone who appreciate the finer things in life - think all things pretty, chic and stylish!

Well that's it for this inaugural post, we don't want to start rambling, but we will be back soon with the first of our regular inspiration boards and lots of other yummy things. In the meantime I'll leave you with the cutest of photos!

Thanks for stopping by, come back and visit soon!
