Board#189: Spring Fling

Ahh Spring... it's anything but spring like out doors right now, and whilst it's months of coldness away for us in the Southern Hemisphere I'm already dreaming of it! And what better way with a fresh kelly green and aqua colour palette. What colours get you in the mood for spring?

Using your invitations to inspire other wedding elements...

Happy September 1st (kinda first day of spring no? or is that officially the 21st?) A  few weeks ago I did a couple of guests posts for my friends Chris and Melissa and as I'm utterly swamped right now with little time to put together blog posts, I thought I'd share the posts I did for them with you today. I wanted to show how you can take inspiration from your invitations and use it to carry the theme through with your cake or bouquet. It doesn't have to be a literal translation of it (although depending on the design this can work well) but even using a hint of the stationery design will ensure you have a streamlined look to your day. So I've paired up some of my designs with some simply stunning bouquets... and of course the most delish looking cakes! I hope these inspire you to think about making a connection between your stationery and other elements you choose for the day. What your favourite combination?

Magnolia Rouge cookies from my Secret Santa

I know we're just a wee bit beyond Christmas and all talk of Secret Santa's, however this particular gift was well worth the wait. Together with some of my favourite bloggers I took part in a Secret Santa exchange with bloggers around the globe. After the New Year when I still hadn't received it I had a message from my secret santa saying there had been some issues and my gift would be a little late. I know only too well that international shipping can be horrendously expensive so I kinda felt bad for the poor person who got the short end of the stick with the furthermost recipient! Last week Judit Meron from Artisan Cakes (she of the fabulous baby shower onesies cookies!!) mailed me to say she had a delivery for me which thoroughly puzzled me as I don't really know anyone who would delivery something for me to Judit. The very same day I emailed my Secret Santa to let her know I hadn't received anything, just so she didn't think I hadn't thanked her. Then I put two 'n' two together and worked it out. So this is what was waiting for me on my return from Melbourne, beautifully made by Judit and so very thoughtfully planned and researched by Katie Saegar from Simply & Forever. See what I mean about being worth the wait... aren't they just the coolest thing ever? They look way too good to eat... although I will say they also taste fantastic!! I couldn't have asked for a better gift! Thanks ladies xo

Cakes & Cookies

As promised I have some more images of delicious cakes and cookies by Judit Meron of Artisan Cakes. I love these little honey cookies... there are so many options for what you can do with these!! And the perfect option for favours in my book. I had to include the ones as the bottom as they're so sweet for a baby shower. Using only the highest quality ingredients, and baked to the high standards of European artisan techniques, Judit will ensure your sweet treats are a stand out on the day!

Putting the cheese into Cheesecake...

How freakin' cool are these?? They're works of art, I'm not sure how I'd go about choosing which one I'd want, they all looks so fabulous. I have to admit that the cake wasn't really high on the priority list for my wedding - although having seen some of the stunning creations made by this clever lady that would probably change now - but these, well I just want one for display in my house... (not sure that the smell would be overly appealing after sitting for some time though!!) These ones are from the Cheese Shed in the UK, however I'm sure if you took this to a local cheese maker you could have something similar created. Happy Friday folks!

Let them eat cake

Wedding cakes are such a traditional part of a wedding. For some couples it is not a big must have, for others it can be the center piece! Your wedding cake can also be practical as well as visually stunning. Instead of just serving with coffee you can use your cake for dessert – ensuring that it will be eaten and can also save you a few dollars on your dessert costs.
It is always fun to style your wedding cake to enhance your theme. Or you may find the cake you love will be the first part of your styling process. Which ever way you go – cakes can be a lot of fun. From traditional white fondant icing with beautiful hand decorating that replicates the beautiful details of your gown, to the funky fun styling of a mad hatter’s cake. You can certainly make it memorable.
Grooms love to be involved in the cake tasting process but often the rest of detail is left to the bride. A good cake maker can help you figure out just what size of cakes you will need for your guest numbers, let you taste the marvels of their different flavours of cake, replicate a style you have seen or creatively design your unique cake style.
Family or friends may also be able to make your wedding cake – just make sure that they can confidently do this or you may find yourself the week of the wedding in a panic with a cake that is undercooked, over cooked or just not what you had in mind. I have a few rules for cakes: no guys, no flies, no fridges (unless specifically required). A whole book can be written on the demise of wedding cakes from collapsing on route, attack of the local ants, to little Johnnies fingers.
Jenny Nichols from For Heavens Cakes is a delight to work with and as you can see from her cake images very diverse in her styling. Check out her website for more samples of her work.
