Board#232: Black & Kraft

I can't believe we're already a week through January.. kinda feels like New Year's day was just yesterday! It's a bit scary that it's mid-Jan next week and before you know it we'll be into February. I hate it how the beginning of the year just seems to disappear before your eyes!! Slow down time! I have this crazy list of things I want to have done, or in place by the end of this month... really hoping I can get about 80% of them achieved. We've been working on a fairly big project in our garden which we finished today so that was very satisfying... although no sooner were we done I was suggesting the next one! Yep you can be sure my husband more than rolled his eyes at that!

I'm generally not a black and white girl, but I'm rather partial to it used with a warmer ivory and even more so when there's a hint of kraft or taupe thrown in! It's so elegant yet modern.

Board#209: Honeyed Lace

Ahh this board makes me swoon, the different textures, the warm honey glow to it, and the pretty lace dresses. Such a timeless palette for a wedding!

Board#188: Natural Goodness

How has your week been? I'm so looking forward to the weekend, a bit of downtime, someone else to occupy Charlie hopefully, and to be honest quite a bit of work on the cards!!! It's Mother's day this weekend too... does anyone have anything special planned? I keen hinting that it should be puppy mummy's day too? Let's see if that got through!! I'd kill for a lovely pampering session right about now!
So we're making progress with Charlie... although unfortunately she's also making progress with us!! Yesterday was the second day after leaving her in her pen outside for an hour or so while I was out, that I drove home to have her greet me at my car!!! God only know's how long she'd been wandering around the local properties for, and we have horses literally 30 meters from our house so that would have been an interesting site to see. I've seen them have a bit of a stand off so I'm hoping she doesn't have the guts to approach them! She's outwitting us so we're going to have to be a bit more clever about it... dang us for having such an intelligent puppy :-)
How lovely and serene is this board? Makes me happy that's for sure! Enjoy the rest of your week folks! xo

Board#175: Fruitful Romance

H-h-happy Valentines!! Surely you knew a V-day style board was coming up right? I couldn't let the day slip by without something related. I have to say that for someone who always professes to not be 'the biggest fan of red', I sure have been using it quite a bit of late, especially in my own little colour story shoots. There are certain ways which I'm most definitely (and quite strongly) opposed to it I guess you could say, but there are ways in which I think it's fabulous and it really adds 'oompf' to a look. This is one of them! But for me it would be crucial to bring in touches of kraft or straw colours rather than just have the ivory. Somehow that makes it ok for me :-)
So we don't get big into the whole Valentine's thing in my household. We do a card always but don't go overboard on gifts or anything. I do however have a nice meal planned out, and to be honest I think that would be as much appreciated as any gift!! I'm very spoilt through the year to be honest so no complaints from me.
Check back in a little later when I have the sweetest of surprise proposals caught on camera!!

Board#167: Cocoa & Blush

Pink and Chocolate Brown was such a huge thing a few years back... in fact I used them in my own wedding, but in the past few years you haven't seen so much of it. That's not to say it isn't still just as lovely and I think used with this palest of pinks as it is here, is super pretty! I think it's a colour palette that works with a lot of different style weddings, from rustic to elegant, to modern and anything in between.

Board#152: Textured Ivory

Now I'm sure it won't come as a huge surprise to long time readers that I'm not the hugest fan of black and white. I don't wear a lot of black, and I don't even feature a lot of black in my work. Saying that when the white is warmed up to ivory it's a whole other story. It has such a classic elegance to it, and I especially love it when used with lots of gorgeous textures, lace, wood, textured paper stock. With a couple of pale neutral shades it keeps it so much more interesting that straight forward black and white (sorry to all you die hard b&w lovers!!).

California Winery wedding from Diane Askew

I'm delighted to share this gorgeous California wedding this morning from Diane Askew. Hilary and Eli were lucky enough to hold the first wedding at the Gundlach Bundschu winery in Sonoma. I'm smitten with the length of her dress with it's pretty sage green sash!

Outfit of the week - Leopard Spots

I've got to say that I've never actually worn anything with leopard or any animal print but I think it looks great in small doses... particularly small doses of the shoe variety! In fact these ballet flats are very tempting! Whilst you probably know by now I'm not much of a black girl, I love it paired with brown and ivory like this.

Board#92: An Arctic Romance

Morning people!! Did you have a nice weekend? I'm sure you did. It was an absolute stunner of a weekend here! We've realised that we get an awful lot of sun in this new house... which is a great thing considering our previous place we lost it very early in the day, but we'll have to do something about it as it's literally too hot to sit outside on days like we've just had and we don't have a lot of shade right now. And can you believe my husband is actually now wanting it to rain because it's good for all our new planting... he even said he might have to give up golf to look after the garden (I think someone hit him over the head in the middle of the night!!)
Today's board is for all you brides in the midst of planning a winter wedding. Whilst there is no snow in today's board the cool neutrals give off a definite wintery feel. There's no reason why you can't have an all white colour palette for a winter wedding, however it's probably best to use a winter white that is a little bit warmer than a bright white (I can just see my husband rolling his eyes at that... 'it's either white or it's not, there's no variation'!!) But girls we all know there is right? If you wanted to use this palette, I would suggest bringing is some warm greys and browns in some of the decor to break it up a little. Also add in texture; a fur shawl or wrap is perfect for outdoor photos, throw in some glamour with cut glass to reflect light on duller winter days, and naturally candlelight, candlelight, candlelight as the evening sets in.
Check back in a little later to find out the winner of the Christmas Card giveaway...

Board#55: Hazy Days of Summer

For those of you who live in Auckland (and possibly most of the country) you will more than appreciate my hankering for warm summer days today - yes I may have just had two wonderful weeks in the sun, however arriving back to gale force winds and torrential rain is like a cold slap in the face (and I'm sure my tan literally faded away on the plane home!). I probably have no right to complain but indulge me just this once on this miserable Monday morning. Post holiday blues may have just set in :-)

Board#3: Boudoir Beauty

Palette: Shell, Black, Ivory
Think soft romantic dreamy overtones

This colour just shouts the word Boudoir...reminds me of being a kid using my Nan's powderpuffs whilst sitting at her dressing table. Does anyone have a dressing table these days? Seems like such a glamourous idea...perhaps we could start a resurgence in them! I think we could all do with a wee bit of glamour at the moment!

Board#2: Vintage Black & White

Having a classic black & ivory colour scheme is so timeless - it's striking and oh so chic and elegant! I think I'd need to have a Grand Piano playing in the background just to complete the mood!

Palette: Black & Ivory

Think Ralph Lauren, Vintage 1940's, Glamourous beading.
