Real Wedding: Carrie + Jono I

I love this wedding! Just saying. It could be the gorgeous rich chocolate bridesmaids dresses (from Watters) that Carrie chose that really sold me. And then of course there's that luscious explosion of ivory peonies, so it could be that. And it doesn't hurt that Diana Sanders has captured the essence of their day so beautifully. Carrie & Jono have had a bit of a international romance as you'll read below, and whilst Carrie is from the US, they decided to marry in New Zealand so that Jono's 97 yr old grandmother could be at the wedding. Awwww...how sweet is that?? And check out the proposal story...tres romantique!

How did you meet?
We met in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Jono was working on Super Yachts and I was finishing my masters in Social Work. We met through a mutual friend at a Badfish concert, a Sublime cover band. About 5 months after we met I graduated and ditched my SW career for a life at sea, with Jono. We haven’t stopped travelling since then.
Tell us about your proposal:
We were working on a boat in St. Martin (Caribbean). It was April 2008 and most of our friends had left the island to head back to the Med or up north on their boats. Jono told me to get dressed up and I knew something was going on when he put shoes on and not jandles. He took me tho this amazing restaurant in the middle of the island. The restaurant was built to look like a tree house. We ate dinner then Jono ordered another bottle of wine (which he never does). We ordered desert and the song My Cheri Amour (Stevie Wonder) came on (not planned and he didn’t even realize it was on) and he pulled the ring out of his pocket and got down on one knee and asked. It was amazing and I was so thrilled. Our waiter brought us over champagne and we celebrated.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
My bridesmaid Angela and I were having lunch and a few glasses of wine and we happened to be next door to where she got her wedding dress. Brides By Demetrios in Cleveland, Ohio. I had only been engaged for a month and wasn’t even thinking about a dress yet. We wondered over and started going through the isles and we both came the same dress. It was crazy. I tried it on, fell in love and that was its. Took my mom back a week later and bought it. Never tried on another dress.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
We planned on being in NZ for this past year and it just made sense. It gave all my friends and family the opportunity to travel to New Zealand, a place where none of them had been before. And I could not imagine a more beautiful place to get married.

Back soon with more.....
