Real Wedding: Kristie + Oliver III

I love it when I get wedding photos and there are so many little things to look at I don't know where to start....and that's exactly how it was with this detail laiden wedding from Emma Hughes. Make sure you check out our earlier posts on it here and here, and to see more of Emma's beautiful work check out her blog. These ever so pretty flowers; an assortment of hydrangeas, peonies and roses, are by Vicki from Wildflower Waiheke, the gorgeous cake by Jane Sandiland (she did mine too all those years back, so I can definitely recommend!). Kristie had this to say about their fabulous venue, Goldwater Estate...
There are literally dozens of wedding venues to choose from on Waiheke Island and we spent quite some time scouting the island for a venue that was right for us. It didn’t take much convincing after seeing the views Goldwater Estate had to offer. We were so impressed with their professionalism, their attention to detail and the quality of the food and wine served. It was obvious to us that they absolutely love what they do and quite simply it was outstanding and totally exceeded our expectations. Our guests are still raving about the food and wine and we couldn’t recommend this venue highly enough.

so for all you brides looking for a Waiheke venue this could be one to check out.

Favourite detail of the day:

I loved watching our guests open their little hand made gift bags and reading the personalised note I had written - that was quite special. I never realised how much people would appreciate a hand written note.
What advice would you give out to someone planning their wedding?
Start planning early and try not to leave anything to the last minute – even when you think you couldn’t possibly do another night in front of your computer planning…You’ll want and need all the energy you can to spend time with your guests especially when you’re hosting a wedding overseas and guests are travelling from afar to see you. The last thing you need is to be chasing up suppliers/details or buying last minute gifts for people etc. My motto was, the more we put into it now, the more we’ll get out of it. Having a partner who was just focussed and involved as me helped tremendously. I seriously couldn’t have asked for more support if I tried – he was amazing. We loved everything about our day but we did leave a few things to the last minute which was a little bit stressful. We absolutely loved everything about our wedding day and had so many comments from our guests that it was the most beautiful, fun and relaxed wedding they had ever been to. Of course we agreed! ; )
Most memorable moment?
Oh that’s hard, there were a couple of memorable moments. Oliver and I wrote our own vows so the ceremony was very special for me – in fact we both couldn’t hold back our tears of joy which the photographer captured beautifully! I was still crying 10 minutes after the ceremony! It was also very special for me to have my two sisters travel from overseas and my best friend Trace (after recently recovering from breast cancer) join us as bridesmaids. Oliver also had his two brothers and best man join us from London, which was fantastic too. Having such close friends and family make the effort to be there for our special day meant the world to us.

Hi Kate, thank you so much for featuring Oliver and I on your beautiful wedding blog.

We're chuffed you liked it so much. It's always great when someone else appreciates and shares a passion for 'attention to detail' and all the little 'extras' that go into making a wedding personal.

A huge thanks also goes out to Emma Hughes our photographer who captured so calmly and beautifully the emotion, humour, amazing surroundings and details of our wedding day. We felt so comfortable with you.

Thanks again Kate and we wish you and your readers all the very best too.

Here's to many more creative, personally handcrafted wedding ideas that don't need to cost the earth!

Kristie & Oliver xx
