How did you meet?
We meet at a bar in Wellington at 1am in the morning on 7 Jan 2006. I dropped a glass and the chivalrous man that Simon is, he helped me pick it up. It was one of those meant to be moments. Simon lived in Auckland at the time so we had a long distance relationship for almost a year before I decided not to go overseas, and made the move to Auckland.
Tell us about your proposal:
Simon proposed in Fiji, we were there on holiday and he got down on one knee on the beach, under the stars with champagne in hand. I don’t remember much to be honest, far too many excited happy tears!
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I found a wonderful dressmaker in Auckland called Emily Percy, I wanted something made just for me. We worked together over nine months to create my very special dress. Emily is amazing, she’s an extraordinary seamstress and my dress is full of exquisite details. Emily also made our bridesmaid dresses, and I loved that they references my dress and so the three made a perfect grouping.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
When we got engaged Simon and I both felt Boomrock was the place for us. The venue provided us with the most extraordinary setting and so our focus then was to ensure the details we added were in keeping with the space.
Any DIY/Budget elements?
My mother hand painted the initial of every guest so that we could place them at their table setting. We wanted something that was memorable, would inject some colour onto the tables, and that people would want to keep.
