Olive Estate wedding by Jo Wickham

Hello lovelies! How was your weekend? First weekend of spring for us here in New Zealand, and it wasn't too bad... the expected rain didn't arrive so that's always a good thing. It was also Father's day yesterday so we had both sets of parents and siblings for a big breakfast at ours. If you follow me on Instagram (you can find me under rubywillow) you will have seen that Charlie was a very thoughtful wee girl and bought her daddy a lovely present - complete with puppy wrapping and all :-) Thankfully her puppy cousins came to wear her out for the rest of the day too!

I simply had to share today's sweet wedding by Jo Wickham with you cause Kayla's dress is just drop dead beautiful!! The lace, the shaped neckline.... it's all just exquisite. And my favourite line from Kayla's story that she says below... "To sum up, the wedding was perfect, but the marriage is even better. We're feel so lucky to have one another". Ain't that the truth!! This is what every single couple should be told or bear in mind when they're in the midst of stressful seating chart issues, and sleepless nights over not being able to get the right coloured tableware or their favourite flowers being out of season. Kayla - she of that gorgeous dress below tells us more about their day...

James and I met on a blind date on January 21, 2010. It was the cliche of love at first sight for us. I moved in with him three months later.

The proposal was different from the norm. After just two months we started to discuss marriage and both just understood that it would happen. We seemed to skip the 'getting to know each other' phase and were so comfortable right from the start. So I turned to him one night and said "We're going to get married, right?" and he said "Yeah, of course" and I said "Does that make us engaged?" and he said "Yes!". But he felt that it was so 'unofficial' that he planned a much more elaborate proposal a month later when we were on holiday in Hong Kong. He took me on a tour of the city, out for dinner, and then back to the Peninsula Hotel where he presented a ring we had chosen together.

I spent the next 18 months or so planning the wedding. We chose the venue, Simunovich Olive Estate, first. It was the best choice we ever made - the venue, the people, the food - everything was absolutely superb.

The photographer was another really important factor for us. I found Jo Wickham online and instantly fell in love with her style. Once I had met her in person, I knew she would be the perfect photographer for us - fun, friendly, and talented. We are so happy with the result and look forward to going back to her in the future for more family photos.

My dress was a slightly customised version of a John Zimmerman dress. It was perfect for me in every way - comfortable, classic, elegant, a bit vintage, and lightweight. I was originally looking for a strapless design but found this neckline far more flattering. I also had many comments about the back looking like 'angel wings'! John paired the dress with a very long veil which was just perfect. He is an amazing designer and lovely to deal with - I would highly recommend him to any bride.

The colour scheme was monochromes and jade green. This was partly because I wanted to work with the existing colours of the venue and landscape, but because I wanted the whole wedding to reflect us as a couple - so I chose a gender neutral colour. We also tied in a 'love birds' theme with little bird and feather motifs.

A few days before the wedding, we heard news that a 'weather bomb' was going to hit. They were warning about heavy rain and strong wind - even calling it a 'tempest'. On the morning of the wedding, the weather was quite severe. But as we were getting ready in the hotel room, I kept the curtains closed and didn't worry about it. Our relationship was blessed from the start and I knew someone was watching out for us. Just as we were beginning to take photos, the rain stopped. We had just enough wind to blow my veil around with a bit of drama, and just enough cloud to throw down some soft light, which you can see especially when we're sitting in the daisy field. We found this tiny, hidden paddock right next to the venue, completely filled with daisies. Just perfect.

My Mum was my maid of honour and a real highlight was when she stood up to deliver a beautiful speech where she said I had found "my happily ever after" and thanked James for taking care of me. To sum up, the wedding was perfect, but the marriage is even better. We're feel so lucky to have one another.

Olive Grove Wedding by Bubblerock Studio

Your really couldn't ask for a more photogenic duo than Aimee & Will... I mean really, how gorgeous are they? You may recognise them from their engagement shoot here, or this fun little shoot they helped us out with and I can attest to the fact that they are both absolutely lovely to go along with their movie star looks! Steph from Bubblerock Studios shot their gorgeous wedding out at the Simunovich Olive Estate earlier this year. The very sweet Aimee shares some details of their day with us...

The theme for our wedding was Urban Elegance. To us that meant minimalist and modern but with touches of luxury. To complement this we chose a colour palette of mostly white with accents of silver and black. The bridesmaids wore short black strapless dresses and carried green/white bouquets of lisianthus, rose and hydrangea. The groom and groomsmen wore black suits and had buttonholes to match the bride and bridesmaids. I wore a dress that was painstakingly put together by a friend who turned two dresses into one, spending hours hand stitching on lace and beads to make the perfect dress.

As soon as we visited our venue the Simunovich Olive Estate, a beautiful Olive Grove in the Bombays just south of Auckland, we fell in love, it had such an amazing vibe, just a good feeling, and we booked the purpose built Bracu Pavilion sight unseen as it was being constructed at the time. It couldn't have been more perfect, it fit the brief of the theme, the colour scheme and required very little decoration.

Our ceremony took place on the helicopter pad at Bracu, we set up a Gazebo from Raj Tent Club to frame the ceremony site, added a black carpet aisle and iron chairs. Guests could pick up handmade ceremony service sheets that doubled as fans to keep them cool, bubble blowers and tissues. Following this the guests went back to the courtyard in front the pavilion for canapes and champagne and were entertained by a 3 piece jazz band that included Will's father. For the evenings festivities they then entered the Pavilion that was dressed in mostly white with accents of silver in the mercury vases and chair covers all set up by Danielle Esterman and her team from Absolute Perfection. White fluffy hydrangea stems and candles dotted all the tables. Our cake continued the theme, pure white with a handmade bow made of icing that extended down from the top tier, the focal point being the large brooch that was placed in the middle of the bow.

For our photography we couldn't go past the talented Bubblerock Studios Team, I met Stephanie Killip on Twitter over a year earlier as brides to be. I hired her to do an engagement shoot for us and once I received those pictures back I was sold on the spot that this was the perfect team to capture our special day. Stephanie not only became our photographer but as a great friend saved the day with helping me to complete the wedding invitations when my previous designer backed out and even gifted us a lovely video that we used as our "Save the Dates".

The girls and I hired a wonderful house on a beautiful golf course at Maxwells Golf in Rama Rama, and after the wedding the maids partners and the groomsmen and their partners joined us to stay for the long weekend. The day after the wedding we had a casual picnic at the house where guests could drop in and out all afternoon and spend some extra time with us. The afternoon involved a lot of eating, drinking and we all relaxed and had a bit of chipping or putting practice or played petanque on the lawn.

We were truly blessed on the day, with everything running to plan. We had a beautiful day that was slightly overcast but the sun came out just as the ceremony started and shined directly on us. The night was an absolute blast we had a full dance floor and many guests staying until the very end. We could not have asked for more.

Tarureka Estate Wedding by Kate MacPherson

Every now and then a wedding comes along that just sings your tune, and this for me is one of them. It's so subtle in it's elegance, with a refined and timeless beauty that has been captured so beautifully. Kate MacPherson really is a genius behind the camera. Chloe & Ben got married at the gorgeous Tarureka Estate in the Wairarapa, and the olive groves at In the Grove provided the perfect backdrop for their portraits. Chloe's Collete Dinnigan dress works in so well with the surroundings and the black and whites of her are pure pieces of art don't you think?

You can see another gorgeous wedding of Kates' in the first issue of {MAG}rouge here.
