Colour Study | Green with Chartreuse & Sienna

Well happy Saturday to you all!! What a fabulous finish to the week we've had here in NZ with 2 gold medals in the rowing late last night. Very exciting!! And on top of that I hit 3000 likers over on facebook and it's been by far the biggest week on the blog ever! I'm overwhelmed at all the positive feedback and support you give me and it's ever so much appreciated!! I hope you have some nice plans for the weekend? We will be laying low and having a quiet one... I'll be trying to catch up for lost work hours during the week due to a puppy who just doesn't want to relax. If you follow me on Instagram (@rubywillow) you will have seen the sad wee thing having just been spayed with a big plastic collar round her neck... which as you can imagine she doesn't much like! So lots of puppy cuddles for us this weekend!

I love the combination of this kelly green with a chartreuse shade... not two shades you'd naturally think to put together, but in my opinion it works. Your thoughts?

Outfit of the week - Chartreuse & Gold

I've always been a big fan of chartreuse green so this dress leapt out at me, and whilst I probably would've usually accessorised with silver, lately I'm on a gold kick and I think it actually works perfectly well with it. And just a tiny touch of black for the nails and accessories give it a little punch! What do you think? Would you wear this colour?

Board#146: Citron & Fromage

I haven't done a board in a few weeks so it's about time right? Yes ok the title is a little naff... but trust me Citron and Cheese sounded far worse!! I'm not entirely sure it this is citron or chartreuse but they're pretty close aren't they? Whilst I know this isn't a colour for everyone I've always been a big fan of it. I think the trick to using a colour like this in a wedding is to use it merely as an accent to the main event. Small details which make an impact. A sash around a pretty grey dress, in the stationery or linen on your table settings, as a cake topper... just touches here and there.
Today is a huge day for little ol' New Zealand with the opening of the much anticipated (if you're a rugby fan that is... only 90% of kiwis then!) Rugby World Cup. It's time for our city to shine on the world stage and it seems in the past week all of a sudden everything in the central city has had a makeover. At this stage I'm planning on venturing into the crowds for the opening ceremony... or maybe the outskirts of them -  just to soak up the atmosphere and will probably end up on a boat in the harbour to watch the festivities unfold and the huge fireworks display that's planned! Auckland will looks amazing!! Here's hoping we're still celebrating large in 6 weeks time!! Go the All Blacks!! (And no I'm not a die-hard fan but I'm in a family of them and I'll certainly be supporting them!!)

Board#138: Warm Rose & Citron...

I've had a couple of requests for boards lately, this one for Nicole who has a colour dilemma over her October wedding... which is holding her back from sending out invites until she has it resolved! And we can't have that! Nicole wants pink... her groom wants yellow! Gotta love a groom with an opinion right? And like a lot of couples they're having trouble seeing how it can come together. I mean there's yellow and pink, and then there's yellow and pink! Nicole sent me the gorgeous bouquet top left, so I've incorporated a warm pink with a almost chartreuse yellow... although without too much green in it, so it can be combined with a softer butter yellow. I've only added a touch of charcoal grey to this (you all know how much trouble I have adding too much black right?) but by adding the grey it gives the whole look a bit of depth which is perfect for a fall wedding. Nicole, I hope this helps you somewhat in the next steps of your planning.

Board#113: Lavender & Chartreuse

Morning lovelies! I all over this combination of shades of lavender and purple, with chartreuse green and a deeper moss. So so pretty! And perfect for weddings in between summer and winter. There are a few gorgeous dresses in the new BHLDN collection in this fabulous chartreuse colour range which I just love (in fact I could really do with one of those dresses tomorrow night for a special dinner out!). And aren't those little lavender gingham favour jars just the cutest things ever!! I want a pile permanently on my dining table thank you very much!

Board#66: Pinstripes & Bikes

As we zoom at a ridiculous pace towards September (seriously it's cruel how time speeds up as you get older!) I'm starting to dream of spring blossoms, the scent of a freshly mown lawn and the sun on my face - the scent of Jonquils wafting from my lounge could have something to do with it - thanks to a lovely surprise delivery yesterday! This board is another that could fit in perfectly mid-season, between summer and winter. Red and green can have the tendency to look Christmassy but not when the green is a fresh chartreuse green, and with the grey in this to anchor it a little, I think it's a winning combination. Lends itself to a whimsical, fun look. What do you think - likey or no likey?

Had to look up Jonquils to see if it was the same worldwide... FYI also known as Narcissus... now you know!

What's your wedding style? XVIV

Wow, we are hurtling our way towards August in a hurry aren't we!! Which is fantastic news for those of us downunder as it means spring is here in a few shorts weeks... yeah that may be slightly optimistic but pays to be on the side of hope right? Cause that means summer is just a hop, skip and a jump away... which brings Christmas... which brings me to the point in a round about way! Which is... red and green. Conjurs up all sorts of Chrismassy images right? And whilst there ain't nothing wrong with some good ol' Christmasness (yip, new word!) it's not really the look or impression you're wanting for your wedding, but change up the green to a sage or a lovely chartreuse and you're onto a winner.... or so I think... as demonstrated below. What do you think... are you in or not?

What's your wedding style? IX

Woohoo, we've made it through another week! Can you believe Christmas is in 4 weeks? Scary. I haven't given it so much as a passing thought so I can see it's all going to be a bit last minute! And today I'd also like to wish a very Happy Thanksgiving to all our US readers!

What's your wedding style? VII

Happy Friday everyone.....my lovely husband has booked us into a quaint beachside spot for the weekend with some good friends...very spontaneously I might add so I'm more than a little impressed. It's the only way to stop me working.... physically remove me from my office. It'll be a much needed break, after a fairly non-stop month. I plan to visit the always fabulous Matakana farmers markets, get creative with my camera, stroll the beach in bare feet, and then put them up to read a book (I have to admit to trying to resist reading New Moon before the movie comes out!).

Anyway I digress...this weeks board was inspired by this beautiful wedding by Carrie Patterson. I know I say this every time, but I really do love this colourway. It's honestly one of my faves - of course it includes green so we're all happy!
