A colour story - Purple & Orange

Thought I'd inject a little vibrant colour into this Friday! This was my colour shoot for Issue 4 of {MAG}rouge. Such fun colours to play with! I can't believe it's October in just a couple of days. I really don't feel like we've even started spring, the weather has been so average! I'm quite sure we're due for a really good run of settled warm weather soon... and I think we're all hanging out for it!Do you have any plans for the weekend? We might try and catch the new movie, Looper... has anyone seen it yet? Looks like a goodie! And it's my little niece's 10th birthday so we'll be doing something with the family... Board#191: Seafoam & Navy

I love how these colours lend a bold modern look to a wedding. I'm not usually into modern weddings per say but sometimes they just grab me. Seafoam is usually seen in more subtle colour palettes so it's nice to see it with something with a bit more punch... especially with this injection of vibrant orange.

Board#190: Citrus Crush

Good morning... I know it's a day late but did you have a nice weekend? It's definitely getting cooler around here! We had an IN.CRED.I.BLE shoot for the next issue of {MAG}rouge on Sunday. Seriously I completely fell in love with the stunning venue... could have camped out there for a week! It was a shoot that came together so well. You'll have the chance to see it all in a matter of weeks!! This third issue is even bigger and better than the previous two... can't wait to share!
I love the crisp freshness of this board. Bouquets full of a variety of white flowers with wee pops of colour are always a winning combination. And fresh citrus with white never goes out of style.

These are a few photos I took some months ago now when I was playing around.. part of this shoot but a few different shots. Aren't these daffodils amazing? I'd never seen them like that before.

Board#151: Woodland Whimsy

Good morning!! Did you all have a nice weekend? I know it's Tuesday but I'm getting lost in the days at the moment. This past week has been mentally busy and by the weekend I was so tired I had to catch up on some much needed sleep to recoup!! Besides that there were some very important rugby games that had to be watched... I'm already very nervous about the upcoming game this Saturday!!
I have had this board sitting around for EVER and I'm really not sure why I haven't posted it before as it's one of my favourite looks. I love the eclectic and rustic nature of it. It's all a bit rambling and mis matched which adds up to the perfect look in my books! Nothing is overdone, it's a little rough around the edges like nature intended!! And rather than go for all earthy colours, by bringing in a touch of the lavender or lilac shades it adds just the right amount of pretty to it!! Right kids I've gotta get back to it, but hopefully I manage a few more posts this week!!

Orange... the ways I love thee...

Well Blogger issues put paid to any ideas I had of getting a post up yesterday so an enforced break was had!! Continuing today with my colour study series... to see the first part of the Orange study from last week click here. Do you have a favourite out of these two?

This is such a pretty colour combination, using blues/greens from teal to seafoam to barely there aqua, and warming it up with lovely peaches and apricots. Perfect for a springtime soiree! Invitation: Wintergarden

Orange... the ways I love thee...

It's been a while since I did my 'colour study' series. It started off with red since it's a colour I struggle with a lot of the time (although oddly I am attracted to it for home furnishings right now... in a rustic, ticking cloth, burlap kinda way :-), and I was showing the ways in which I do like it. So I'm moving onto Orange today... a colour I do like but you don't actually see used all that often in weddings. To see the previous posts click here for red, and here and here for blue.

This is probably one of my favourite ways to use orange, in a burnt shade with rustic elements, mixing it up with warm ochres, and browns... obviously quite an autumnal colour scheme. Burlap would be a must have!!

An unexpected but super pretty combination. You often see colours like these in more exotic weddings... especially Indian weddings, but I think it works perfectly for a softer romantic look as well, with the deeper beet anchoring it. Invitation: Mayfair

Another favourite, mixing up soft apricot shades with earthy olives and warm taupes. You don't often see men wearing suits in this shade but for the right wedding I think it looks fab. And the flower options are endless with this combo. Invitation: Oiseau

Inspiration Board: Acorns & Aspen

I'm cheating a little bit this morning and reposting a board I did last year for a guest post on Valley & Co but haven't even shared it on here. It's a holiday here today (sorry for those of you not lucky enough to have Easter Monday off... and it's also Anzac Day but because it falls on Easter Monday we miss out on that day off too unfairly!)... so I'm taking it easy!! This board was designed around a winter invitation suite I did, using a somewhat unusual palette for winter of blue with a warm orange... I think it gives off such a lovely warm winter glow and whilst it's certainly still quite mild at the moment, has me hankering for a cozy afternoon rugged up next to an open fire (I'm sure there will be plenty of that to come soon enough though!).

Board#121: Enchanted Garden

Brrrr.... an early wintery snap hit yesterday and it really wasn't pleasant!! I need to do some preparing for winter so I don't end up sitting in my office in a yeti outfit everyday to keep warm! I think I'll have to keep posting summery or spring like boards to warm the heart in the meantime!! It's probably not hard to guess which photo this board started with!! Isn't it dreamy? (the top left if it wasn't overly obvious). I'd love to go and hang out there for the afternoon wouldn't you? Sipping mimosas, nibbling at hors d'oeurves, just generally lounging about looking fabulous in that dress! I think Enchanted Garden is such a fun theme for a wedding.

Board#120: Modern Elegance

I can't even tell you how long I stared at my screen for in order to come up with a creative name for this board... and failed miserably!! But in a way that kinda works as the whole point of it was to create a somewhat timeless look that didn't fit into any boxes. You wouldn't look at these images collectively and instantly name a colour theme, yet they all work cohesively together. I think couples often get too caught up on ensuring everything matches, but it can just take the tinest touch of colour here and there. to bring your look together. You also wouldn't look at this and pigeon hole it as being vintage or retro or ultra modern... it's kinda just about the couple being who they are, loving what they love without having to put a name to it and I think if you do that, it will stand the test of time.

Board#119: Pumpkin & Artichoke

I'm holding on to the last days of summer for dear life and whilst it's still beautiful out there and lovely and warm right now, there's no denying there's a change in the air. The light has that early autumn look to it, in the shade it's just that much more cooler. Having only been in our house for five months, I love seeing it with fresh eyes in each season... it's actually amazing how much of a difference I notice with the different light, where it falls in the house now as opposed to a few months back. I can't wait to get some big trees planted so we have lovely Autumn foliage next year. Everyone keeps telling me how annoying it'll be with leaves all over the driveway but I don't care... I want lovely bright colourful leaves everywhere!! This board to me is early Autumn... not quite into the rich reds and yellows that late Autumn brings, still with that hint of summer freshness.

Board#106: My Sweet Clementine

Happy Monday kids!! Did you have a fabulous weekend? Oh isn't this board just summer all over!! I can almost taste the sweetness of the mandarins/clementines (whatever we're calling them these days!). Delicious!! And that plaid tie is just awesome right? How many of you could convince your man to wear plaid? I fear I would get an emphatic no :-)

Board#93: Cranberry & Apricot

Well I promised a wee while back some more summery boards so here we have it! Isn't this just the prettiest combination? I know peach/apricot combined with red isn't a combo you would instantly think of but the apricot really softens the red and well it's just so girly and yummy!! This week is just flying, I seriously cannot believe it's the first of December today. I hope all your Christmas preparations are coming along better than mine... I so want to be organised but with my work load but I'm fearing it'll be a last minute thing once again. We're hosting the family at our place this year and I'd like to have it all worked out at least a few days prior to the big 25!!

Board#86: Trick or Treat

As we get ever closer to Halloween I thought I'd inject a little trick or treat goodness into the blog. Now I have to say that Halloween isn't the big deal it is in the US here in New Zealand. Sure kids go trick or treating and there are a few people that embrace it, but no where near to the same extent. The fact that we're on daylight savings and it's warming up doesn't really add to the spooky mystical feel of the holiday... and it's the wrong time of year for pumpkins which doesn't help! You can get them but not in large pumpkin patches. (I may be mistaken on this... if anyone knows of one in NZ please let me know!) 
I'm guessing there aren't too many of you out there that are going to have a Halloween inspired wedding but I think the below board shows you that if this is your favourite holiday you could definitely inject a little inspiration from it into your day and still have a classy looking affair! I'm not one for bright colours with black, but throw in a warm brown and the softer butter yellow together with your traditional pumpkin orange and you have a fabulous colour scheme to boot!! What do you think... would you loosely base a wedding around this look?

Board#71: Spring Sorbet

Well it seems I kinda jumped the gun a bit when I got all excited about spring last week so this board is my way of willing it on!! Inspired by the Monet like image of the gorgeous floral dress and spring ranunculus, I picture a sweet outdoor garden wedding, with lots of fresh organic local fare served, pitchers of Pimms, guests relaxing in hammocks and playing games on the lawn. This definitely puts me in a spring frame of mind.
Before I leave you for the day I just want to send my best wishes and thoughts to all the people of Canterbury who are struggling in the aftermath of the earthquake over the weekend. xoxo

Board#52: Lemon & Honey

Hey friends, how are we this fine Monday morning? I hope you all had a nice weekend? If you're anywhere near where I live it involved dodging a lot of heavy rain showers!! Did anyone attend a wedding? How many of you are planning fall or winter weddings? Whilst I know spring and summer prove the most popular options, there is nothing more romantic that a cosy wedding in the middle of winter, surrounded by candlelight or an open fire, lots of rich warm colours, not to mention all the yummy winter food options you could serve up. This board is probably more suitable for an early autumn affair, with that hint of summer with the brighter yellow.

Board#25: Outdoor Fiesta

Morning everyone, I'm a bit slow off the mark today, the Christmas countdown is on, with little more than three weeks to get a lot of work out the door and in the post so I'm squeezing in time for blogging when I can. We have some great magazine giveaways coming up in the next couple of weeks so be sure to visit back to make sure you don't miss out! We may just blackmail you into having to make comments to be in to win though so get prepared :-)
Today's board started out as one thing and turned into something completely different but that's often the best way. It's all about the casual outdoor celebration, whether it be on a beach or in a beautiful field, whether it be a wedding or just a good excuse for a party! With long banquet tables, a live band to set the ambiance, some fruity cocktails, twinkly lanterns scattered throughout, and all your nearest and dearest, you have the recipe for a fabulous event!

Board#22: Rustic Neutrals

Happy Monday everyone, hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
This board screams my name! As I've mentioned before....once or twice :-) I LOVE neutrals and texture. Anything with burlap/hessian, twine, rattan, linen...love it. But I do always like to add a bit of colour with it, just as an accent to lift it a little. And it doesn't have to be a lot. So for this occasion I've chosen the orange, which does give it a fall kind of feeling, but hey, nothing wrong with that....for most of you right now it is fall! And the orange pops ever so nicely against the taupe and chocolate tones. Whilst neutrals are 'safe' they're also timeless and you really can't go wrong.... I don't think you'll ever look back and wonder 'what on earth was I thinking putting that colour with that'!!
