Board#227: Red Hot Summer
Well if this doesn't have you feeling all summery like nothing will!!! It's definitely getting that way around here now; the cicadas are out, flowers are in full bloom, the humidity is on the rise, and the supermarket's are stocked with cherries... a sure sign Christmas is upon us!! This board makes me so happy!!

Summer Solstice Shoot by Kina Wicks
I have the prettiest of shoots for you today from Kina Wicks. Not only did she photograph this but she made the dress and the cake!! Talk about multi talented! I'll leave it to Kina to tell you more about her inspiration...
When this styled session was first hatched in my mind, I knew I wanted to create something light and airy feeling... almost fairy-like. I am extremely inspired by summer with all the long evenings, warmth and sunshine, so everything in the planning revolved around that. I was thrilled to have Sheila Jung from Ipomea Floral Designs on my team. She created the most luscious June bouquets and I wanted the session to fully showcase the beauty that creative florals can add to an event. I love to create... not only through my job as a photographer, but in general. Because of this, I decided to get to work and sew a dress that had been going through my imagination... it was very simple... a store bought peasant top, 28 yards of peach and cream tulle and a cotton candy pink ribbon at the waist to pull it all together. The cake was a simple confection that was made in my kitchen with the richest buttercream icing you every tasted in your life! One of the things I believe strongly in, is that for a wedding to be visually stunning and overflowing with beauty, it doesn't have to be elaborate. Some of the most lovely details, are really quite simple and surrounded by clean canvases. Mint tea is one of my favorite summer treats with mint picked from my urban porch garden... so I had to include that little touch:) Veronica Vital, the model and Leticia Benitez, Makeup artist really made the complete look come together, and brought everything else to life.

Board#200: Afternoon Delight
We got back from our lovely weekend break to Melbourne last night, and were very happily reunited with Charlie who went a little nuts when she saw us!! Although it would seem she was thoroughly spoilt by Jon's parents while we were away! It's crazy how much we missed her over three days... I hate to think how many times we talked about her and wondered what she was doing. A wee bit obsessed perhaps? Are all you puppy owners out there like this?
Well we're about half way through winter now and I'm hanging out for the days to start getting a bit longer and warmer. I'm loving the idea of a fun afternoon soiree dressed up in pretty frocks (love that word!!), sipping yummy cocktails and nibbling tasty treats off pretty vintage crockery. Sound pretty appealing huh?

Lobster Bake Inspiration Board
I had the honour of guest posting for Chandra from Oh Lovely Day last week, and I shared this fun summery Lobster Bake board. I've always wanted to have a holiday in Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard and of course these colours transport me there! I think having this as a theme for your wedding would be SO much fun... have any of you considered this idea?

Board#163: Apple Pie & Ribbons
I know, I know, I kinda launched a magazine and all but disappeared!! But this week I'm back with some stunning real weddings and a couple of inspiration boards. I'm trying to get all my stationery jobs in order before taking a few weeks off over the summer (that is if summer ever decides to arrive!! Seriously it's been the windiest three months I can ever remember, and now the next 10 days... rain, rain and more rain!!). I also plan on getting some things done around the house and garden... have finally made major in roads in my dining room decor which is VERY exciting, and will hopefully finish decorating my office too. We will also be working on Issue number 2 of {MAG}rouge which is very exciting and I will spend some time catching up on photographing stationery jobs from the past six months (see aforementioned weather rundown as to why I'm so behind!!) as well as releasing some new designs. With the addition of the magazine to my work load I'm going to take some time out to reassess Ruby & Willow and the direction I want to take it in!
Don't the colours in this board just make for the most fun wedding? And really who doesn't want a rope swing with ribbons at their wedding?

Board#157: Love in the Orchard
Morning!! How are we all? Nice weekend?... did anybody attend a wedding? The weather here wasn't especially wedding like unfortunately, someone's lost the memo that summer is meant to be on it's way! I had a lovely afternoon and evening with this super special lady on Friday... so nice to take time away from my desk to relax... even if we did talk weddings much of the time! We hit the Mexican cafe and had a few too many mojitos... although we stopped just in time to not embarrass ourselves on the dance floor with the Salsa experts!
Doesn't this board just make you instantly think of carefree summer days!! ahhh I'm yearning for them ! (MUST work on my plan to take 3 weeks off over Christmas to actually experience summer this year!!) There really is something about a fruit orchard that makes it so appealing as a wedding venue. I think it takes us back to 'romance' of picking fruit as kids! The places I used to go and do that are all built up and industrialised now which always seems so sad!
Here's to a fabulously productive week!

Vibrant Summer Waiheke Island Wedding by Sutherland Kovach
This has got to be one of the most fun and vibrant New Zealand weddings I've seen... and at my favourite venue The Mudbrick on Waiheke Island!! I mean just look at that view! Sent in by the fabulous Hannah & Jasmine from Sutherland Kovach this is enough to brighten anyone's day... just look at all the details and the flowers. Annie Oxborough (from Tully & Gardener) is a master with flowers.... she also did the stunning arrangements for the baby shower I designed last year. Apologies for the image heavy post... it was a challenge to cut down!!
Haleigh and Lewis came home from chilly England to get married at Mudbrick in the middle of January. They wanted a relaxed festive atmosphere and enlisted the help of florist and stylist Annie Oxborough to deck the venue out in their chosen colours of pink and yellow. Lewis and his groomsmen wore bright yellow socks to match the bridesmaids' dresses, and all three girls carried bouquets in yellow and white. Guests were given yellow party horns to serenade the couple as they walked back down the aisle after the ceremony, which was a novel and hilarious touch!

Board#111: Crushing on Pastel
If you've been reading for a while you'll know that I'm not generally a pastel kinda girl but I can't deny that there's something about this sweet sorbet look that I'm loving. It's definitely very girly! I love the combination of colours in the bridesmaids dresses, which is also repeated in the table setting. And then of course the serving of icecream.... I think if I were to do it all again I would have to have some sort of icecream bar at my wedding!

Auckland Summer Engagement Shoot
I have two contrasting engagement shoots for you this morning... both equally as gorgeous! First up a shoot that typifies Auckland on a summers day! Steph Dunant from Bubblerock Studios has managed to capture both casual playful shots complete with icrcream (yum!), as well as some more dramatic editorial style shots under the Harbour Bridge, and together with stunning subjects like Aimee and Will the results are gorgeous! Steph has just started out in the business and if this shoot is anything to go buy, she has a bright future. She also does videography so be sure to check out her site. Aimee had this to say...
"Will and I have lots of photos of us together; but it is so hard to get great photos of you together that capture the essence of your relationship when one of you has to hold the camera and do that "extend one arm out and flip the camera around maneuver" often resulting in one of your heads being half chopped off or missed altogether. We also noticed that most people only have great photos of themselves as a couple on their wedding day, that means you are generally in traditional wedding attire and these serve a different purpose but don't capture what you are generally like day to day. Because of this we chose quite a natural style for one of our shoots. Will and I both love the beach and we both love the area that we live in; Devonport I think has a special place in our hearts so that is why we chose the first location and style. The second was a bit more of a play up. Will used to be a model and I always wished I was cool enough to be one, so I thought it would be fun to do a more edgy/fashiony shoot - hey you're paying someone to take photos you might as well fufill a childhood dream haha! We had a wonderful time working with our photographer Steph Dunant from Bubblerock, she instantly made us feel comfortable and the proof of her talent is in the photos themselves which will become treasured memories for us."
Aimee you are going to make a stunning bride, I can't wait to see what your wedding day brings!

Board#97: Sunny Days
I feel I must apologise to my Northern Hemisphere readers for putting all these summery inspiration boards in front of you when you're freezing in what I've heard are very chilly temps. Although perhaps it's a good thing... looking at all the bright sunny images may just warm you up!! Here's hoping! I just adore the combination of yellows and greens in this board... especially with a touch of warm grey to anchor the colours a little and stop them becoming too insipid. Naturally this would suit an outdoor wedding (in fact I think that's what I visualise for 90% of my boards!), bridesmaids in sweet tea-length dresses, parasols to shade from the sun, vases full of fragrant gardenias, jasmine and hyacinths or perhaps a pretty garden rose, jugs of fresh lemonade and pimms to quench the thirst, and perhaps a game of croquet to entertain the guests while the bride and groom take photos.

Board#96: Garden Party
Ohmigod Christmas is next week!!!!! And I am sooo unprepared but I hope to change all that this week! I styled and hosted my friends baby shower on Saturday and had a fabulous time, but boy entertaining is exhausting... wiped me out for the rest of the weekend (wasn't helped by my husband and the baby daddy getting worse for wear for the remainder of Saturday and the tropical weather conditions we had here yesterday.... muggy sticky weather before Christmas? What's up with that?). I have a sneak peek of the event coming up shortly so check back soon!!
Today's board is all about a summery garden party, the kind where as a guest you're excited to throw on a pretty summer dress, grab a cardigan/wrap once it cools down later in the evening, dine alfresco and dance in the twilight. In fact I remember the wedding of the baby mumma spoken of above when we all sat along the banks of the kerikeri inlet for the evening and just took it all in. The sort of relaxed, chilled out affair that we all love here in New Zealand. But just because it's relaxed and informal doesn't mean you can't infuse plenty of details into it that lift it from an ordinary weekend summer gathering to something a little more special and unique. Those little personal touches as well as the vows you take are what make it distinctly yours.

Board#85: Lemonade & Sunshine
Good monday morning!! It's might be labour day here but did you really think I'd leave you without a post? Surely not! Don't want to miss a day with you all :-) even if I am lying out in the sun as you read this. Rest assured today's post was done several days ago and I will indeed be taking the day off. I will most likely be knee deep in boxes by now... let's hope so anyway. Packing isn't exactly a fun part of moving but I'm getting so excited to get in the new house that I just want to get into it. Since the sun is going to be out in full force this week today's board is all about sweet sunshine! Pretty pale yellows with sage greens. Enjoy your day off where ever you may be, rain or shine!!

Board#60: Summer Fruits
Morning folks!! Did you all have a nice weekend? Did anyone attend a winter wedding? After the glorious weekend we had in Auckland I've already got summer on the brain, and with the nights getting just the tiniest bit longer it feels like it's on the not too distant horizon! Yay!! This board reflects the watermelon obsession I've been having since we returned from Hawaii, not only the taste of it (in a cocktail with vodka and mint crushed over ice please!) but the colour of it for a fun summer wedding. Kind of coral with a little more red. I'm loving it with the soft yellow tones shown here. A table set up with your favourite beverages is a must have, as well as the basket of parasols to shade from the summer heat... and of course just to ensure you're looking chic. What other colours would you pair it with?
