How did you meet?
At a Superhero fancy dress party while at uni.
Tell us about your proposal:
Rome has always been my favourite city. On our last trip to Europe, we ended up having a 12 hour stopover in Rome on route to Croatia. Jared surprised me by proposing while we were taking five at the Trevi Fountain.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I wanted a very simple dress... after looking through hundreds of books I found it and had it made. The silver embroidery gave a small amount of detail.
What was the design inspiration for your wedding?
Getting married on Waiheke Island, we wanted to keep the colours quite earthy, greens and browns. It worked with the natural landscape.
Describe your wedding flowers:
Our bouquets consisted of white roses with magnolia leaves, which are brown on one side, green on the other, in-keeping with our wedding colours. Our church arrangements consisted of mossy branches and white lilies, the fragrance was beautiful. Iain Stevens Floral Design created beautiful arrangements.
Describe your wedding cake:
Sweet Cakes on Waiheke made our three tier wedding cake. This too was simple in design, white with little white fondant flowers and white ribbon. We had three flavours, carrot, lemon syrup and chocolate.
Favourite detail of the day:
Our bridal cars. We hired a 1928 burgundy Packard and a 1923 Jewet. The drivers looked the part too!
What advise would you give out to someone planning their wedding?
Make sure you sit down with your fiancé early in the planning process and talk through what the two of you want for your wedding. It is easy to get overwhelmed by all the advice and input from family and suppliers not to mention the amount of choice available. It is helpful to be able to go back to your initial plan!
Most memorable moment?
Walking into the church and seeing a hundred of our closest family and friends in the same place.
We wish Kate & Jared all the very best for their future together!
