Anyway onto today's gorgeous feature sent in by Emma Hughes. I've loved the previous weddings we've featured of Emma's here and here, but this one is seriously floating by boat today!! Like I said it's all in the detail and besides that you've just gotta love a wedding when the groom can rock headgear like this.
Kristie, from Australia and Oliver - a Kiwi, met in London many years ago, but have since relocated down under and choose to come back to NZ to get married at Goldwater Estate on Waiheke Island. Kristie takes up their story below....
We were ‘flat mates’ and dated for 9 months but decided things weren’t quite working out, so after much heart ache we separated. I headed back to Australia while Oliver stayed in the UK and life went on. 6 years later, Oliver sent me an email out of the blue to say he was coming to Melbourne for a visit. I didn’t decline the chance to catch up with an old boyfriend but I had moved on – well so I thought! We caught up and our feelings for each other overwhelmed us both - the flame wasn’t out and not long after this we decided to rekindle the connection and love from 1998. Oliver returned to the UK for a couple of years and finally made a permanent move to Melbourne in 2006.
Tell us about your proposal:
Oliver proposed on a weekend away at Johanna Beach (Great Ocean Road, Victoria) in 2008. It was a freezing cold wet July night and he insisted we both jump in the outdoor Jacuzzi to warm up! After filling up the spa tub with hot water, using all of my essential oils (!!), and after a lot of encouragement we both jumped in and enjoyed the most beautiful out door spa! I then noticed Oliver becoming increasingly nervous and suddenly out of no where a small box appeared with a beautiful Ruby ring and he asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes and we cried and laughed together at the same time! The owners of the B&B and the pet Alpaca’s were the first to know the next morning.
Tell us about finding your wedding dress:
I looked long and hard to find a dress that I connected with and that suited my personality. I wanted something soft, flowing, interesting, elegant and ladylike. I came across Gwendolynne Burkin based in Fitzroy, Melbourne and simply couldn’t go past her creative timeless designs that weren’t about following a trend but more about creating beauty with interesting cuts, layering old with new, using antique style trimmings and delicate fabrics. Working with someone I felt relaxed and comfortable with was also important to me and Gwendolynne was a pleasure to deal with. Going along to my gown fittings was like popping in to see an old friend. The ‘second’ dress I tried on was the one purchased and I was so happy with it. My dress was a 1940’s inspired gown in ivory with French vintage lace, gorgeous pearl buttons and subtle pleated fine netting layered over a soft delicate silk fabric. I had a detachable train that I wore for the ceremony and photographs, and quite simply it was me and I felt amazing in it.
Back with a whole lot more soon...

I love the wedding dress with it's lace detail, so unusual. And that bouquet is just gorgeous! Have a great weekend!
