Blackbarn wedding by Fineline Photography

Isn't this black Vera Wang dress simply drop dead amazing!!! I absolutely love it and it looks just incredibly on the beautiful hills of the Hawkes Bay. Frances and Aaron got married at the Black Barn which is one of my favourite places down that way. Stunningly captured by Fineline Photography, the gorgeous bride Frances shares some details of their special day with us.

Aaron proposed in 2010 by setting up a beautiful picnic at my favourite spot, a stunning lake about an hours drive from our home. It was the perfect afternoon and the beginning to a busy year and a half of wedding planning! I had wanted to have my wedding at Black Barn for years, and it didn't take long to convince Aaron that it was the perfect place to marry. The inspiration behind our wedding was a whimsical garden feeling, from the lanterns, to the candles and flowers we wanted something very magical.

The cake really added to the whimsical feel, I wanted something unique and Aaron wanted something that tasted delicious! The cake Stacey created ticked both boxes, the gorgeous 3 tiered wedding cake with gardenias and shimmered lilac buttercream looked so wonderful in the vineyard setting!

I absolutely adore my wedding dress, after trying 40 or more wedding dresses on, I struggled to find something that I really loved. When I first went into Vera Wang I tried the dress on in white and thought it was beautiful, on my way out the door they showed me the same dress again but in black. Ten minutes after leaving I rang them back to make another appointment. I had to try the dress on, it was love! As I am known for wearing mostly pink clothing, falling in love with a black dress was a real surprise to everyone including me but I could not imagine myself in any other dress.

As I wear headpieces every day I knew I had to find the perfect headpiece. I couldn't wear a veil with my dress but I still wanted something dramatic. I spent eight months searching for it, finally finding it only 2 months before the wedding. With my dress I knew that my hair and make up had to be soft and romantic, and I was so happy with how it all came together.

I knew that my bridesmaids had to have the right dresses to balance mine. As soon as I saw a preview of their dresses I knew they were exactly what I was looking for. I counted down the days for them to be released so I could order them the moment they came into stores. I am so glad I did, all of the girls looked absolutely stunning. Of coarse Aaron looked wonderful as well!

My dream wedding at Black Barn was exactly the whimsical and wonderful day that I hoped it would be.

What do I love more - the dramatic photography or the absolutely fabulous dress?!

I love the Vera Wang white BM dresses. Did she travel to the states to get them?

She's brave with that black dress! Wow it's beautiful though, she was able to pull it off well in addition to the outdoor ceremony.
