Brisbane Wedding by Shutter & Lace

This lovely Brisbane wedding from Lillie Brennan of Shutter & Lace just goes to show that rain need not be an impediment to beautiful photos... and of course it installs a little bit of fun into the occasion with the umbrellas! I love the moody shots they've captured in the woods! Erin & Clayton has a few mishaps in the lead up to the wedding... but who doesn't right? Although I think the groom realising 2 hours before the ceremony that his suit was actually an hour and a half away, probably wasn't ideal!! A substantial speeding fine had to be swallowed in the process of getting it there on time! Made for some amusing speech fodder I'm sure. The lovely bride Erin shares some more about their day...

We wanted something simple yet elegant, but most importantly it had to have atmosphere! With us both being very family orientated, and our love of travel and music, we wanted to create an atmosphere that felt like a ‘big family dinner’. Our top priorities were music, food and drinks!  We had longer tables and a banquet style dinner to create a social environment, and we finished off with a Brisbane icon – Tuffy, who certainly surprised the guests - particularly of our generation.  The main thing was for our guests to have a great night celebrating with us which I think we achieved.

The fact that it hadn't rained for 108 days prior to the wedding, statistically speaking that weekend was to be the driest of the year.  Just because it was wet and gloomy all weekend, the day turned out better than we could have expected... and looking on the positive side, the photos wouldn't have turned out like they did without the low clouds. Guests were forced into a smaller space, which thankfully created the intimate ‘family’ atmosphere we were initially aiming to achieve.

I surprised my mum by using the veil that her mother wore.  It took a lot of work from a close friend’s mother to restore it.  Both mum and dad were emotional and very proud that this was incorporated into the day.

I know I sound like a broken record, as I read blog upon blog upon blog for tips and ideas… every bride says to enjoy night and not sweat the small things… this is so so true. However, unfortunately before you know it your mind is running a 100 miles an hour from the moment you wake up until what feels like 5 minutes later, it's time to say goodbye. I am glad a good friend of mine (non bridal party) forced us to take time out whilst everyone was on the dance floor, to soak up the night and reflect on all the hard work over the past 12 months and celebrate what we had achieved through all of the planning.  Our friends are still talking about the night and how much fun we all had!
