I'm such a fan of the duo of Karin from Haute Horticulture and photographer Annabella Charles. They create the prettiest of floral studies. Wouldn't this make the most perfect centrepiece for a winter wedding?

I absolutely adore this gorgeous flower and think it makes such a lovely addition to any bouquet or centrepiece! I have actually never seen it in New Zealand... might have to do some research to see whether it's ever available!

Pretty white spring ranunculus...

I've been playing around with a few personal projects lately... and I thought these were just too pretty not to share. Whilst I'm no photographer, I do love it and I'm pretty happy with how these turned out. I will have a lot more of these type of posts coming up in the next few months... all driven by colour really as that seems to be something I'm asked about a lot... colour styling that is.

Heavenly Hydrangeas

I know, I know, I have to apologise for the alliteration, as it's a bit naff but I couldn't help myself!! Hydrangeas are one of my favourite flowers, I just love the country cottage appeal of them and of course they were featured heavily in my own wedding. They look beautiful both by themselves en masse, or tucked amongst other blooms in an arrangement. And likewise they work equally well for the bridal bouquet or your centrepieces. And they come in the loveliest of colours, from ivory to shades of pink and purple, to gorgeous vintage blue and green tones.

Beautiful Bouquets Mark II

Whilst I loved the vibrant bouquets I posted earlier in the week the one's in this board  really set my heart alight. I love the more muted tones and when they're mixed with berries and fruits and something a little unexpected they're simply divine!! Do you have a favourite here? What do you prefer....the more vibrant or something more toned down?

Beautiful Bouquets

I might get shot down for saying this on a wedding blog but I'm not a huge fan of roses!! There... I said it. A bunch of red roses = last kind of flower I'd want to receive! (Thankfully the husband hasn't made that error although he did stick to Gerberas a good few years after I'd moved on from them - which was a month into our relationship at most!) I don't mind roses within bouquets with other blooms, and I also don't mind them en masse in a big rustic bucket but a structured posey of them - no, sorry, not for me. Hey - each to their own right? My favourite type of bouquet is very textural, not too perfect and used lots of different types of flowers. I love something that looks like it's been picked straight from the garden. I love ranunculus, anemones, berries, dahlias, peonies and any mix of those. Here's a collection of some of my favourites in brighter, more vibrant tones - a more muted collection coming up later in the week.

The perfect bloom!

The oh so brief Peony season has come around again in New Zealand (well it's brief here up north, I believe they're more abundant in the south), and I've taken advantage with a beautiful bouquet of pink ones on my dining table right now....they just make me happy! It is a much revered bloom and for good reason, they are quite simply, stunning! And the perfect flower to have for your wedding bouquet and tablescapes. These vibrant luscious blooms look magnificent en masse and come in a variety of shades. Below is a selection of some of my favourites.

Beautiful ranunculus

I don't think I've ever had had ranunculus (funny name right?) in my house but that is so going to change when they next come into season - which is spring, so just around the corner!! They are GORGEOUS!! I love the texture of them and so many colours to choose from. I love, love, love the big bouquet of white ones!

Man Flowers!

In Victorian times a gentleman wore a bloom in his buttonhole as a matter of course. Now we save it for a special occasions...like the wedding. It is a way of identifying the bridal party and a nice way to make special male guests feel included. Usually the grooms boutonniere reflects the brides bouquet and the groomsmen match the maids bouquet but you can really do whatever you like. If your man baulks at the idea of a pink rose you can offer him lots of alternatives.

How about feathers instead of flowers? A koru or curly fern frond always works well with strips of flax or grass and looks very masculine. Berries, rosehips or eucalyptus nuts with grass ,vine and leaves could also be the answer. Then there is always the thistle head which looks great teamed with tartan ribbon and a country theme.

I suspect most guys really love to get dressed up, pin on the boutonniere and sashay forth on their wedding day. Here are a few ideas that stray away from the typical.
