Board#233: Apricot & Grey

Well the crazy good weather continues around these parts... honestly I don't know how you people in places like California get work done when you have so much sunshine!! Although there is only so much time you can spend out there in the harsh sun during the day admittedly! I think I need a paddling pool under my desk to keep me cooler, it's that warm! (ooh now that's actually not a bad idea!!)
How lovely is this apricot and grey combination! It's timeless don't you think? Love the little pop of colour in the groomsmens ties! There are SO many pretty options when it comes to flowers in peach and apricot tones so you really can't go wrong there.

1930's inspired wedding shoot by Candy Capco

I have something a little different for you this morning... a gorgeous 1930's style faux wedding shoot by the very lovely Candy Capco. I love the moodiness of it, and the brides gorgeous pop of red lipstick is just perfect. Great job by Candy and the rest of the team!

Board#186: Golden Forest

May!!! Seriously... how did that happen? I'm still waiting for summer to arrive... although admittedly it kinda did in April (go figure!!). It's so unfair that time really does appear to go quicker and quicker the older you get! It's been a while since I've posted a yellow and grey board, and you don't often see these colours in a more rustic outdoorsy setting... it's usually in a modern or more minimalist way. So I thought it might make a nice change. I hope you enjoy!! I'm heading off for a puppy date with Greta from Vela Images this morning... in fact it was her dog Hunter that inspired us to get Charlie... we even went to the same breeder. So I'm hoping for some puppy advice from an expert!!

Board#179: Lemon Squash

Happy Friday kids!! How's your week been? Progress has been a little slower than I would have liked due to losing what felt like almost an entire day trying to sort out a printer issue!!! Gah!! The next four days are all magazine, magazine, magazine!! And then we go live.... I hope you love it as much as we do!!

So in my craziness this week (in fact I've only just realised it's the first of March and it's nearly over!) I've totally forgotten to announce the winner of the Shabby Apple Dress!!! Hopefully this news will make someone's day a whole lot brighter. And without further ado, the winner is..... JULIE LIGHT!! Congratulations Julie!! I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of your new dress!!

And remember Shabby Apple is also offering 10% off discount to all MagnoliaRouge readers until March 21, 2012. Just enter "rubyandwillow10off" at checkout.

Board#172: A New York Moment

New York wedding anyone? I don't often feature much in the way of urban modern affairs but it makes a nice change right... although this still isn't especially modern I guess. It's been a while since I've done a black and yellow board and I love bringing in the warmer mustard shade with tones of grey.

Country Estate Wedding from Kate MacPherson

Happy Monday! Did you all have a nice weekend? Hopefully the sun was shining in your part of the woods (it certainly wasn't in mine... oh except for about 5 minutes before the sun went down on Sunday!). I was thrilled when I found out a couple of days before my client Melody's wedding that Magnolia Rouge favourite Kate MacPherson would be shooting it... and once I saw the images of course I knew it was the perfect feature for our debut issue of {MAG}rouge. Melody was an absolute gem over the months we worked on her stationery and these photos confirmed she's just as gorgeous on the outside as she is on the inside. To see the whole feature and the credits visit pages 38 of {MAG}rouge.

Oh and by the way that gorgeous robe Melody is wearing to get ready in is from Plum Pretty Sugar who make the most divine lounge wear. I've had one of their robes (in fact this very one) on my wish list for quite some time... I really just need to bite the bullet and order it!! You can check out more of their pretty things here.

Board#161: China Blues

Morning all! I don't often gravitate towards this shade of blue, but I used it last week in a board, and it's grown on me, so I'm giving it another go!! It's such a pretty colour combination with just a touch of yellow, and one that can be quite sophisticated or more playful for a casual wedding. I am settling in for a FULL day at the desk designing... wish me luck!!

Citron & Grey Pinecone Save the Dates...

Last week I was honoured to guest post for my friends Sofia & Andre on their blog, whilst they were having the time of their lives at the Jose Villa workshop in Mexico (jealous much? I'm no photographer but I'd sure be happy to pretend in order to do that workshop... from what Sofia has told me about it, it sounds amazing and Jose, Joel and the rest of the team sound utterly inspiring!!). I shared this save the date that I designed for Constanze and Adrian, who contacted me from Germany (how cool is that!!) to work on their stationery. Constanze was inspired to use these colours after seeing the below inspiration board I posted a few months back... and I couldn't have been happier to oblige when she gave me such a fun brief to work with... not to mention gorgeous colours! I can't wait to work on their stationery for their December 2012 winter wedding!!

Waiheke Island Wedding by Jo Wickham...

I love it when I find out my clients have booked photographers I know and admire for their big day so I was thrilled when Jasmine told me they had the incredibly lovely Jo Wickham lined up. Jasmine & Matt's invitations have proved to be one of my most popular requested designs ever since, I've done several variations of it now. They got married at the always beautiful Mudbrick Vineyard over on Waiheke and their stunning flowers were from Leaf & Honey.

Board#146: Citron & Fromage

I haven't done a board in a few weeks so it's about time right? Yes ok the title is a little naff... but trust me Citron and Cheese sounded far worse!! I'm not entirely sure it this is citron or chartreuse but they're pretty close aren't they? Whilst I know this isn't a colour for everyone I've always been a big fan of it. I think the trick to using a colour like this in a wedding is to use it merely as an accent to the main event. Small details which make an impact. A sash around a pretty grey dress, in the stationery or linen on your table settings, as a cake topper... just touches here and there.
Today is a huge day for little ol' New Zealand with the opening of the much anticipated (if you're a rugby fan that is... only 90% of kiwis then!) Rugby World Cup. It's time for our city to shine on the world stage and it seems in the past week all of a sudden everything in the central city has had a makeover. At this stage I'm planning on venturing into the crowds for the opening ceremony... or maybe the outskirts of them -  just to soak up the atmosphere and will probably end up on a boat in the harbour to watch the festivities unfold and the huge fireworks display that's planned! Auckland will looks amazing!! Here's hoping we're still celebrating large in 6 weeks time!! Go the All Blacks!! (And no I'm not a die-hard fan but I'm in a family of them and I'll certainly be supporting them!!)

Vintage Lace Invitations in Peach & Grey

Jasmine & Matt are getting married in March at my favourite venue ever (only cause it was mine.... and yes I know I say this every time but it really is amazing!), Mudbrick Vineyard on Waiheke Island. They wanted muted vintage tones to the suite which was printed on ivory to further enhance that effect. Jasmine gave me a bit of guidance but graciously gave me quite a lot of free reign so I added a subtle pattern to the invite as well and mixed it up with an old fashioned rose motif. It was finished off with a peach belly band to match and printed grey envelopes. I think this might be one of my favourites of late! (and the fact that it matches my blog so well is an added bonus!!)
Happy Friday lovelies!!

Board#94: Golden Fruit

Morning lovely people! How was your weekend? Has anyone out there finished their Christmas shopping? I hate to say that I haven't even begun or given the whole holidays any thought. It's always hard being it comes at the end of the busiest time of year for me and with printers etc shut down in January (well for the beginning at least) I have to cram everything in before Christmas so there's little downtime. I made a very reluctant visit to the mall over the weekend to do a food shop and well as you can imagine parking was at a premium and the place was jumping, so I have no plans to rush back! Whilst I was battling the supermarket aisles, my husband got his DIY on and became at one with a skillsaw!! Now that is something I never thought I'd say! (my dad will be reading this and will probably pop up for an impromptu visit to check on his work now!). He did a great job, still has all his fingers and I now have more planting do so we're slowly getting there.

Board#92: An Arctic Romance

Morning people!! Did you have a nice weekend? I'm sure you did. It was an absolute stunner of a weekend here! We've realised that we get an awful lot of sun in this new house... which is a great thing considering our previous place we lost it very early in the day, but we'll have to do something about it as it's literally too hot to sit outside on days like we've just had and we don't have a lot of shade right now. And can you believe my husband is actually now wanting it to rain because it's good for all our new planting... he even said he might have to give up golf to look after the garden (I think someone hit him over the head in the middle of the night!!)
Today's board is for all you brides in the midst of planning a winter wedding. Whilst there is no snow in today's board the cool neutrals give off a definite wintery feel. There's no reason why you can't have an all white colour palette for a winter wedding, however it's probably best to use a winter white that is a little bit warmer than a bright white (I can just see my husband rolling his eyes at that... 'it's either white or it's not, there's no variation'!!) But girls we all know there is right? If you wanted to use this palette, I would suggest bringing is some warm greys and browns in some of the decor to break it up a little. Also add in texture; a fur shawl or wrap is perfect for outdoor photos, throw in some glamour with cut glass to reflect light on duller winter days, and naturally candlelight, candlelight, candlelight as the evening sets in.
Check back in a little later to find out the winner of the Christmas Card giveaway...
